Målerås

Mats Jonasson Målerås is Sweden’s largest privately owned glassworks. Today it primarily produces art glass and decorative glass, which mainly is cut, painted and engraved. Animal reliefs from Målerås are well-known throughout the world. In recent years the glassworks began experimenting with art works that incorporate both glass and metal.

A visit to Mats Jonasson Målerås has much to offer. In the shop you will find a great deal of fine crystal articles at factory prices. Right next to the shop is the exhibition hall. It has both old engraved masterpieces and the very latest art glass creations signed by Mats Jonasson. Next door there is an exhibition of the glassworks’ jewellery. In addition, Design Arena Målerås is located adjacent to the glassworks. Here you will find art glass from Sweden’s most skilful studio glassblowers.

The blowing room is open to visitors. You can watch glassblowing, casting of glass and cutting, painting and engraving here. In the glassworks’ lunch restaurant and café, you have a view of work in the blowing room. Hyttsill (hot-shop herring) also is served at the glassworks.
